In The Umbra

  • Chimaera Gallery 3502 Scotts Lane #2113 Philadelphia, PA 19129 United States (map)

Chimaera Gallery owned & directed by Angela McQuillan is Philadelphia’s newest gallery. Visit the Artists and their work represented. Explore the Chimaera Shop for small sculpture, drawings, prints and objets d’art.

Chimaera Gallery presents:

The Umbra is the innermost and darkest part of the shadow created by a solar eclipse. If you are standing within the umbra, you will experience a temperature drop and find yourself in darkness while you witness a total solar eclipse. This phenomenon is only visible from a very small area on the earth’s surface, offering an extreme perspective from the path of totality.

As the moon obscures the sun, evoking a rare moment of darkness, the human eye contracts in response to the reduced light, amplifying the ability to see the celestial beauty for a brief moment in time. In this correlation, we find a reminder of the infinite wonders of the universe and the breathtaking ways in which our senses connect us to the cosmos. Each person perceives this experience differently, depending on where they are standing.

"In The Umbra" features artists working from unique perspectives, exploring the allure of distant galaxies in outer space and contemplating the infinite possibilities that lie beyond the boundaries of planet Earth.

About the inspiring program:

Have you ever heard the triplet: Time, Talent, and Treasure?

Did you know the original saying was "Time, Talents, Treasure and Physical Strength"?

"Time, talent, treasure and physical strength, which, if applied to the promotion of social improvement, the advancement of science and the furtherance of education, would convert in a very short period the whole earth into a paradise."

Successful non-profits understand the power of shared responsibility in philanthropy. Board members use this approach to align their mission and vision. Join us in bringing passionate individuals together to make a meaningful impact on our community.

This community conversation will begin with purpose, mission, and vision, then we'll learn about each participant's goals. As a board member, annual and long-term planning, recruitment of new board members, and financial goals are often at the top of our agendas, and we are never able to brainstorm new ways to connect with our extended community.

During this 60-minute conversation we'll hear about the personal perspective of non-profit board members from non-profit organizations that serve our city. We want to discuss pain-points and ways to collaborate to lessen the burden and have a broader reach. Whether the need for private support is measured in the thousands or in the hundreds, we all have an important contribution to make.
