The mission of this residency created by Dr. Carsten Skarke is to create ways of engaging art to expand science communication. ITMAT embeds the Artist-in-Residency/AIR into the Translational Research Immersion Program (TRIP), an existing pathway program, exposing undergraduate students to the Clinical Translational Sciences (CTS), beginning with a 10-week mentored summer research experience. The artist shadows the programming, science research and visits labs to integrate and expand the science. This enables the artist to witness the evolution of research projects by immersing themselves in the human experience unfolding among the TRIP participants.
